An Anaesthesiologist and an expert in Pain Management and Palliative Medicine, trained at some of the best medical institutions in India and abroad, he excels in multimodal analgesia and interventions for – - Chronic headache - Neck pain - Shoulder pain - Lower back pain - Gluteal pain - Chronic abdominal and pelvic pain - Knee pain - Peripheral vascular disease - Post-herpetic neuralgia - Phantom limb pain He is also an expert at providing total and palliative care for cancer patients, and managing recurrent ascites and pleural effusions with an indwelling catheter.

He holds an MBBS earned from the Government Medical College Thrissur under University of Calicut in 1989; a Postgraduate Diploma in Palliative Care from Edith Cowan University, Australia; and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Anaesthesia from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. Dr. Ramkumar was a Clinical Professor of Anaesthesia and the Head of the Division of Pain and Palliative Medicine at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences before joining the Aster family. He was also In-Charge of the Pain and Palliative Care Clinic at 1: Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, Amala Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Thrissur, and West Fort Hi-Tech Hospital, Thrissur.
